Dear friends,

I am very honored to introduce to you a talented Tajik's composer and pianist Mrs Farangis Nurulla-Khoja (Shahidi) who recently joined our Tajik community in Canada. Farangis comes from Ziyodullo Shahidi, the prominent family of the late great composer of Tajikistan. Farangis and Ravshan, his beloved son are now resided in South Shore of the city of Montreal.

Farangis Nurulla Khoja is a contemporary music composer/pianist who focuses on vocal intonations and its unique ability to influence our perception.



Farangis Nurulla-Khoja holds a Diploma of Fine Arts in Composition (University of Gothenburg, Sweden). Having also studied at the University of California in San Diego with Brian Ferneyhough and Roger Reynolds, as well as at IRCAM, she lives by the criteria of the international life and follows the aesthetic language of world music. Farangis Nurulla-Khoja's compositions have been performed in concerts and on International festivals of Contemporary music in Dushanbe (Tajikistan), Helsinki (Finland), Gothenburg, Malmo, Vaxjo and Stockholm (Sweden), Leipzig and Munich (Germany), Toulouse, Royaumont, and Paris (France), Osaka and Tokyo (Japan), Montreal, St-Irene (Canada), and San Diego (USA). She received the Grand Award of the Abu Gazali Foundation in Salzburg (Austria) for her orchestra piece "Replica" in 2000.

Last week, the Tajik community of Canada is also honored to receive Dr Munira Shahidi in Montreal. Dr Munira Shahidi is visiting professor at University of Oslo (Norway) and McGill University (Canada).

Munira Shahidi is presently Director of the Ziyodullo Shahidi Republican Museum of Musical Culture, and Chair of the Ziyodullo Shahidi International Foundation in Tajikistan. She founded both organizations and has created an international network of actors of contemporary culture. Dr Munira Shahidi is also founded the journal 'Fonus' a publication devoted to culture as a peace-making instrument. During her years of study, research, travel, and teaching, she has become more and more interested in cultural studies, in particular the study of the culture of peace.
